Governor Appoints Brian K. Rahn as Sheriff in Washington County

Governor Jim Doyle announced the appointment today of Brian K. Rahn as Sheriff in Washington County. Rahn, who has served as a Sergeant in the Wisconsin State Patrol since 1990, will fill the vacancy created by the death of former Washington County Sheriff Jack Theusch. “I am pleased to announce the appointment today of Brian Rahn as Washington County Sheriff,” Governor Doyle said. “Brian will bring new vision to the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, along with strong leadership and management philosophies. I am confident that his experience as a law enforcement manager will provide for quality law enforcement services to the citizens of Washington County, and I know that Brian will be committed to building strong working relationships with business, community and local agencies.” Rahn will begin serving on Monday, June 23, and will complete a term ending January 2007. Brian Rahn, 37, has served as a Sergeant with the Wisconsin State Patrol since 1990. As a Sergeant with District 3 out of Fond du Lac, he is responsible for overseeing the operations and personnel for the entire district. From 1986 to 1990, he worked at the Waupun State Correctional Institution as both a sergeant and an officer. At Waupun, he also served as a member of the Department of Corrections Emergency Response Unit and as an institution investigator responsible for investigation officer misconduct within the institution. He is also a former Corporal in the United States Marine Corps. An alderperson on the Hartford City Council, Rahn is also a member of the City of Hartford Police and Fire Commission, the Dodge County Executive Law Enforcement Association, and a board member of the Wisconsin Troopers’ Association. Rahn has also served on the executive board of the Wisconsin State Employees Union. Rahn completed the certified public manager program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2000 and is currently working toward a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice. Rahn and his wife Rebecca live in Hartford and have two children.
